The construction of a new $5 billion pediatric campus, which will take over the current Children's Medical Center Dallas, has been officially initiated by Children's Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The objective of the new facility, which occupies nearly 34 acres in the Southwestern Medical District, is to improve pediatric care in North Texas.
The campus will consist of more than 4.7 million square feet of construction, including a cutting-edge pediatric facility comprising two 12-story towers and one eight-story tower. This new facility's inpatient and surgical capacity will be substantially increased to accommodate the region's expanding pediatric population.
The Rees-Jones Foundation announced a $100 million donation at the groundbreaking ceremony, a substantial contribution to the project. This donation is part of a broader fundraising initiative involving a matching gift from the Jean and Mack Pogue family.
Christopher Durovich, president and CEO of Children's Health, underscored the value of this new campus for future generations. "This new Dallas campus will symbolise hope and healing for our children and future generations," he declared.
The facility will provide comprehensive services for children and families by incorporating a neonatal care center, a Level I pediatric trauma center, and 552 beds. It is projected that the construction process will take a minimum of six years to complete.
