Fort Worth Officer Assigned Restricted Duty Following Hit-and-Run Shooting Incident

FORT WORTH- The department announced on Thursday that a Fort Worth police officer who was involved in a shooting while off-duty has been placed on restricted duty, forfeiting his badge and firearms until an investigation is completed.

A truck struck the unnamed officer's vehicle and departed the scene on Tuesday afternoon, prompting the officer to report the incident to 911. He pursued the truck on Interstate 35W south after the collision. The officer claimed that the driver attempted to ram his vehicle during the chase, which prompted him to discharge multiple shots at the truck. The motorist sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital after being struck.

The Fort Worth Police Department has verified that the officer will be reassigned to an administrative position without police powers during the ongoing investigation in a statement. The department underscored that it is customary to conceal the officer's identity during active investigations that involve police fatalities.

There have been no arrests of either the officer or the vehicle driver as of Thursday. The department is conducting an investigation into both the hit-and-run and the shooting to ascertain whether charges are warranted.

Authorities are also soliciting public assistance, urging anyone with information or images concerning the incident to contact the major case unit at (817) 392-4430.
