After months of searching, Dallas has pinpointed five finalists for its next police chief. On Monday night, candidates with backgrounds in local and federal law enforcement were introduced at a public meet-and-greet event at City Hall.

The finalists are Interim Dallas Police Chief Michael Igo, Dallas Police Department (DPD) Assistant Chief Catrina Shead, Carrollton Chief of Police Roberto Arredondo, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Daniel Comeaux from Houston, and former FBI Assistant Director Brian Boetig. Although their experiences differ, every candidate started their career with a municipal police department.

The selection process is anticipated to proceed swiftly. A public meet-and-greet event is set for Tuesday, April 1, providing residents with an opportunity to engage with the candidates. Subsequently, City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert will engage with each finalist before reaching her final decision in the days ahead.

The upcoming chief will take over from former Chief Eddie Garcia, who was recognized for decreasing violent crime in the city. Nevertheless, city leaders indicate that additional efforts are necessary. Councilman Chad West observed that although violent crime rates have declined, residents are also eager to witness enhancements in other aspects.

“My residents are expressing their desire to see a reduction in other crimes now that we’ve observed a decline in violent crime.” “That’s the next iteration anticipated from this new police chief,” West stated.

The new chief will focus on sustaining crime reduction initiatives, enhancing community relations, and tackling important public safety issues. As the final decision draws near, residents and officials in Dallas are keen to discover who will guide the department moving forward.
