Urban heat islands are regions that endure significantly higher temperatures due to a lack of vegetation and an abundance of heat-absorbing structures. Dallas is taking measures to mitigate rising temperatures in urban heat islands.

The findings of the city's Heat Island Study Phase II, which was carried out in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, were recently made public. The study identified the areas of Dallas that experience the highest temperatures and suggested remedies that are fair to all residents.

Some of the cooling techniques that the authorities intend to pursue include increasing the number of trees that are planted, constructing reflective pavements, and expanding weatherization initiatives.

As a result of the fact that more than 1,100 heat-related illnesses and at least two deaths were reported in 2024, the officials of the city underline the importance of protecting citizens, particularly those who live in communities that have historically been disadvantaged.
