On Tuesday evening, the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) appointed Dr. Karen Molinar as its interim superintendent during a board meeting. Molinar will succeed former Superintendent Angelica Ramsey, who resigned after two years due to community dissatisfaction with the district's performance.

Ramsey's departure caused controversy, particularly in light of her severance agreement, which exceeds $900,000 and includes her annual salary of $335,000. She will be on leave until August of next year despite her continued employment as the district's ambassador of public relations.

Dr. Molinar previously served as interim superintendent during the most recent superintendent search in 2022 and has expressed her intention to apply for the permanent position should it become available. "I do want the job, and I will apply for it if it’s open," she stated explicitly. Nevertheless, she underscored her dedication to the district's support during this transition and to fulfilling her responsibilities as interim superintendent.

Ramsey's payout was not explicitly addressed by board members during the meeting, which resulted in numerous unanswered questions regarding the circumstances of her resignation. Stakeholders are anxious to observe how Dr. Molinar will guide the district toward enhanced performance and community trust as FWISD navigates this leadership transition.

The board's decision to appoint Molinar is indicative of its dedication to stability as the district endeavors to address its challenges in the long term.
