Dallas ISD Heightens Security After Social Media Threat at Skyline High School

DALLAS, Texas- Officials from the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) are investigating a potential social media threat directed at Skyline High School. 

Upon receiving a report about the threat, the district promptly notified the Dallas Police Department and Dallas ISD Police. Additionally, parents were informed of the situation. The district is taking the problem seriously. 

A spokesperson for the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) confirmed that security measures at the school were promptly intensified in response to the potential threat. According to the spokesperson, "Our primary concern is the safety of our students, and we are collaborating with law enforcement to ascertain the legitimacy of this threat."The incident is also causing concern among community advocates. 

Patricia Allen, the originator of the organization No More Violence, underscored the increasing anxiety that numerous students and parents experience in response to these threats. "We didn’t used to worry about violence in schools," according to Allen. "Now, I don’t want our children to live in fear."Allen, who had previously worked in Richardson ISD, established her organization to assistfamilies that have been affected by violence or trauma, with a particular emphasis on those who have lost children to violence. She expressed apprehension regarding the escalating frequency of school threats and the emotional toll they impose on both students and parents.

School safety experts have commended the district's prompt response. According to John Matthews, Executive Director of Community Safe Initiative, who has been instructing school safety protocols for over twenty years, the district made the appropriate decisions by promptly contacting law enforcement and investigating the threat. Matthews stated that schools are currently confronted with a diverse array of potential hazards. "The key is to have a plan, practice that plan, and use the latest technology to keep students safe."

DISD has determined that any student identified as the perpetrator of the threat will be subject to severe disciplinary measures perthe district's student code of conduct. The district emphasized that such actions are not permissible and will result in repercussions.

Matthews further stated that schools must maintain a high level of alertness in the presence of threats, regardless of their credibility. He underscored the significance of preparedness, emphasizing that districts must proactively ensurestudent safety by utilizing technological tools and conducting regular training to monitor and resolve potential hazards.

DISD is steadfast in its dedication to the safety of Skyline High School students and staff as the investigation progresses. Parents are encouraged to stay informed through official district communications, and additional information regarding the investigation will be disclosed as it becomes available.
