Officers caution drivers that they may be arrested for travelling at dangerous speeds along U.S. Highway 75/Central Expressway and Texas 121/Sam Rayburn Tollway as the Allen Police Department is cracking down on extreme speeding. The program, initiated by Allen Police Chief Steve Dye in May, has already resulted in 967 drivers being issued tickets, with over one-third of them being captured driving at speeds exceeding 90 mph.
Officer Andrew Rembert, who frequently encounters vehicles exceeding the 70 mph speed limit by at least 20 mph, was accompanied by NBC 5 Investigates. Rembert asserts that observing velocities approaching 100 mph is ubiquitous, with sure motorists exceeding this limit.
"It is not uncommon to observe drivers exceed 100 miles per hour," stated Rembert. "It's out of hand, and we must do something about it."
According to recent data, 27 drivers were detected traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph during the crackdown's initial four months. An investigation conducted by NBC 5 earlier this year found that certain drivers have exceeded 130 mph.
The increased enforcement is a response to the increasing concerns regarding road safety, with officials seeking to reclaim control of the highways from extreme speeders. Potential arrest for reckless driving is a real possibility for drivers discovered at these high speeds, in addition to receiving a ticket.
Officers continue to work overtime to enforce speed limits and patrol the Allen Police Department's continuing enforcement.
