Dallas—The first growth in student enrollment in over a decade is positive for Dallas Independent School District (DISD).

Just two weeks into the school year, the district enrolled nearly 139,000 kids, exceeding projections of 137,500.

Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde told trustees at a recent monthly meeting that enrollment is likely to climb through September. "This is an encouraging sign for our district and reflects the hard work we’ve put into improving our schools," she said. "We are thrilled to see more families choosing DISD for their children’s education."

Increases in pre-K and kindergarten enrollment, which are essential for educational success, have driven the surge. The district’s investment in early childhood education is vital, and they are seeing that investment pay off.

The surge in enrollment comes while many school districts nationwide experience diminishing enrollment. DISD officials feel their efforts to improve education, school facilities, and community engagement have contributed to this rising trend.

DISD is committed to providing high-quality education and support for all students. Elizalde continued, "This growth is a testament to the trust our community has in us."

DISD leaders expect enrollment to rise throughout the school year, indicating a renewed interest in the district and its activities.

Families seem to be buying into the district's early education and community participation, bodes well for Dallas schools.
