Former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on September 15, 2024, while playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was spotted by Secret Service agents with an AK-47-style rifle concealed in nearby bushes, approximately 400 to 500 yards away from Trump.

Agents opened fire on Routh, who fled the scene in a black Nissan. Thanks to a witness capturing a photo of the vehicle, authorities quickly apprehended the suspect on Interstate 95. Law enforcement recovered the weapon along with ceramic tiles and a GoPro camera, indicating a detailed plan to document the attack.

The FBI has taken over the investigation, treating it as an attempted assassination. This is the second such attempt on Trump’s life in the past two months, following an incident in July at a Pennsylvania rally. Despite the close call, Trump was unharmed and later expressed gratitude to the Secret Service, stating that "nothing will slow me down."

Both state and federal charges are expected to be filed against Routh. The incident has sparked strong reactions from public officials, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who condemned the act of political violence and emphasized the importance of protecting public figures.
