North Texas woke up early Wednesday morning to a dramatic show of over 200 lightning hits caused by a strong storm system moving across the area. Heavy rain fell simultaneously with the intense lightning activity. In some parts of the Metroplex, two inches of rain fell in just a few hours.
Due to the rapid accumulation of water, the National Weather Service issued short flash flood warnings for parts of both Tarrant and Dallas counties, advising residents to exercise caution and avoid low-lying areas. Commuters had a hard time because roads quickly became flooded in the worst-affected areas.
Around noon, the showers were expected to move eastward, giving the Metroplex a brief respite. The break from the rain won't last long, though. Showers and thunderstorms are more likely to occur on Thursday than on Wednesday night. There is a 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day on Thursday.
The unstable weather trend is likely to last until the end of the workweek. It could also rain or storm on Friday, and there is a slight chance that the rain will continue into Saturday morning. It is expected to stay warm and humid during this time, with temperatures remaining in the 80s.
Expect the warm weather to continue over the weekend, along with light winds that are expected to last until Monday. Residents are being advised to monitor the changing weather predictions throughout the week and take necessary safety measures in case of rain or storms.
