Dallas Police Department welcomes a new leader. Daniel C. Comeaux was named the city's new police chief on Friday by City Manager Kimberly Tolbert.

Comeaux is the Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Houston Field Division and has more than 33 years of experience. Since 1997, he has worked for the DEA on high-impact operations that go after drug trade groups and violent crime in both urban and border areas. Comeaux started out as a police officer in Houston as a patrol cop before he joined the DEA.

City Manager Tolbert said she had faith in Comeaux's ability to keep and improve Dallas' progress in public safety. Tolbert said, "The City of Dallas continues to drop crime year after year." "I'm sure that with SAC Comeaux in charge, we will continue to be one of the safest big cities in the country. We will also build trust and make it easier to hire and keep good employees."

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson also praised Comeaux's appointment, pointing out that he has the right skills and is a good leader.

Johnson shared, "Chief Comeaux will bring a lot of unique experience to this very difficult role." He continued to say, “As a commander who has spent years fighting the evils of drugs like fentanyl and as a former Houston police officer, he knows that public safety is the key to making cities stronger.”

Comeaux is supposed to lead the Dallas Police Department with a results-driven, community-focused method that focuses on preventing crime, enforcing drug laws, and building trust with the public.

Comeaux stated, “I joined the police force because I witnessed what can happen to neighborhoods that aren't safe. At the federal level, I am known as the local cop because of my collaborative approach to tackling crime and my dedication to developing leaders in public safety who are bridge builders for the community.

The new Dallas police chief is proud that his career in law enforcement has come full circle and look forward to serving alongside the men and women of the Dallas Police Department.

Dallas is still working to lower crime rates, hire more police officers, and get involved with neighborhoods all over the city.
